CLS is delighted to welcome ETH Professors Hedan Bai (D-MATL), Lars Lindemann (D-ITET), and Siddhartha Mishra (D-MATH) as associate faculty members.
Professor Hedan Bai (shown left) is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Materials (D-MATL) and Head of the Robotic Materials group, which takes a bottom-up, material-centric approach to create robots with soft materials. With a goal to achieve functions that mimic or exceed those of living organisms, the group combines the development of smart materials with the creation of new actuation, sensing, control, and power mechanisms. Subtopics covered include Soft Optics, Sustainable Robotics and Soft Robotic Bioelectronics.
Professor Lars Lindemann (middle) was appointed as Assistant Professor for Algorithmic Systems Theory at the Department of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (D-ITET) in July 2025. Prof. Lindemann’s research focuses on the development of mathematical methods in control technology and formal verification as well as their algorithmic implementation in autonomous and cyber-physical systems. His results are applied in areas such as robotics and autonomous driving. Image: Courtesy of USC.
Professor Siddhartha Mishra (shown right) is a Full Professor at the Department of Mathematics (D-MATH), and Deputy Head of the Seminar for Applied Mathematics (SAM), a center for research and teaching in numerical mathematics, mathematical modelling and computing in science and technology. Prof. Mishra runs the Computational and Applied Mathematics Laboratory (CAMLab), which has the goal to design, rigorously analyze and efficiently implement novel algorithms for computer simulation of complex physical, engineering and biological systems.
